Over the past few years the cost of postage through Australia Post has risen at a pace that none of us small business owners could have predicted. Each increase chips away at already thin margins and we have done everything possible to absorb these costs so that our customers would not feel the full weight of them. Unfortunately the latest round of price changes has made it impossible to continue covering these increases ourselves.

When we first visited Mullumbimby over 20 years ago now to see if it was the place we wanted to settle there were multiple hotel options within town which have now been reinvented into permanent accommodation.  Fortunately there are now  many options for accommodation including Air BnB , Caravan camping at either Mullumbimby Showgrounds or the Giants footy grounds , hipcamp plus two motels in town - The Middle Pub (see our separate blog for our recommendation for their meals) and Mullum Motel. 

Step back in time at the Brunswick Picture House—a beloved local cinema where classic films are screened in a nostalgic, whimsical setting. The vintage charm, complete with art deco details and cozy seats, makes every visit feel like a special occasion. The Brunswick Picture House is located in nearby Brunswick Heads Northern NSW - not to be confused with the Brunswick area in Victoria

Discover the laid-back charm of Brunswick Heads with a visit to not only the beautiful beaches yet also Torakina for the river swimming which was a favourite place to take our boys when they were young. Meander along the river, watch the surfers dance on the waves, and enjoy fresh seafood at the local markets plus schedule in a meal at one of the many excellent eateries. It’s a place where time slows down and good vibes flow.

A day at Crystal Castle is a journey into a fairy tale come alive, a reminder that magic is real—and it’s just a ten to fifteen minute drive up Coolamon Scenic drive from the main Mullumbimby township.  It is noted as being home to the largest and most beautiful crystals in the world and a lovelw way to while away the day.

Every Friday morning, Mullumbimby transforms into a bustling wonderland of fresh produce, vibrant crafts, and community cheer at the Mullumbimby Farmers Market—held in the scenic Mullumbimby Showgrounds. As the sun rises over the lush hinterland, locals and visitors alike gather to indulge in a feast for the senses.  

The Byron Bay Lighthouse walk is more than a hike; it’s a soul-stirring journey into Australia’s wild, beautiful heart.  And, if you want to remember your visit to the Lighthouse why not visit our sister store Quirky Ceramics Collective for one of their vividly coloured delightful Byron Bay themed ceramic cups, plates or teapots!  

Step into serenity at The Banya Bathhouse on the main street just past The Patch Cafe and before Linen House and Kiva Spa, tucked away in the backlane behind the camping store building and new florist .  Either of these places are your ticket to relaxation and rejuvenation whilst visiting Mullumbimby and surrounds. 

Mullumbimby’s café scene is a lively blend of aromatic coffees, vibrant brunch plates, and cosy nooks up some of the main streets hidden laneways. Sip on a velvety flat white at a local haunt, where baristas craft magic from beans roasted nearby. The town’s cafes are plentiful with literally dozens within not just the main street area yet also out at the Mullumbimby Industrial area on Manns Road when you enter via the Pacific Highway. 

Embark on a magical journey through the Koonyum Range—an outdoor lover’s paradise bursting with lush greenery, bird calls, and panoramic views. A short drive from Mullumbimby down to the golf course and then up through Wilsons Creek. The bushwalks meander through towering trees, bountiful wildlife, delicate ferns, Boogerum waterfall catchment and wildflowers, each step whispering secrets of the ancient landscape.

Take a leisurely stroll down Mullumbimby’s Main Street—a charming strip lined with eclectic stores and boho vibes. Pop into Shanti Town, a treasure trove of bohemian clothing, crystals, and spiritual tools that spark your soul. Nearby, the Hemp Store offers eco-friendly fashion, skincare, and accessories—perfect for conscious shoppers.

It was 2018 when we last shared ten of our favourite places around our hometown of Mullumbimby. How quickly time flies! Since then, our sleepy little town has blossomed into a buzzing hub for tourists and curious adventurers from near and far. The quiet streets now hum with life, music, and the delightful hum of new stories waiting to be uncovered.

So, with a nostalgic giggle and a sense of wonder, we embark on an updated series: Ten of Our Favourite Places Around Mullumbimby!
